My friend Nate and his sister Liz were running the Ogden marathon, and I got to pace.  I planned to meet them around mile 8, just after the turn to run around the lake, but I saw Kelli running down, so I tagged along with her for a couple miles.  She ran well!  Shortly after getting dropped, I saw Amber, and ran with her for a mile or so.  She PRed by a long ways.  It was fun to see waves of runners coming along, with clusters around the pace groups.  I heard the 3:35 pacer quit at the half, leaving the course, tossing the balloons and signs in the trash and disappearing into the crowd.  It would be pretty discouraging to be part of THAT pace group.

I saw several other neighbors and friends, before finally spotting Nate and Liz.  We ran from 9-19.  Liz was doing her 1st marathon.  She was having a tough go, more mental than physical, so we did all we could to keep her distracted and moving along.  I laughed at one point she said, "I thought this was going to be fun."  She mostly held on to 10 minute pace, so it was easy to keep up an endless stream of prattle to keep her distracted.

At the parting of the ways I was tempted to continue along with them, but logistically, it wouldn't have worked out very well to collect the car parked in Huntsville.  So I turned around at mile 19 and headed back up the canyon.  I wanted to run 20ish miles, and pick things up at the end.  My final miles were considerably faster, but not as quick as the couple I ran with Kelli.   My garmin is giving up the ghost, so I can't get any numbers, but I stuck pretty close to 7:20 mm.

I'm making long run plans for 5/26, pondering an up-down on skyline drive, or some BST nonsense, shooting for 17-20 miles, depending on difficulty of the trail.  Company would be welcome!

What a fun way to get in a long run. I will be up for a long run on 5/26 but will probably not be able to keep up.

THANKS for running with me! It was a good pick me up. Yesterday just seemed long, usually the first half flies by, but not this time. It was nice to have someone to chat with for a bit, thanks for doing a few tempos miles with me. ;o)

GREAT long run! I have gone to the end of UVM 3 years and run people in the last 1-2 miles over and over and LOVED every second of it.

What is your goal pace for UVM(I saw you plan on Thursdays post)? I guess I will have to come up with a plan in 2 weeks when I can walk again.

Great run Kam! This is such a great way to get LR in because time just flys by when you are focussed on other people and not yourself.

Kelli & Kam I have a plan for you both for UVM. Run with me!! 3:15! I'm going to need all the added support I can get. :)

From Kelli on Sun, May 20, 2012 at 19:31:14 from 71.219.97.214

1st rachelle, I think you will be faster than a 3:15. You have it in you for sure, you are FAST!!! Faster than me, I know it. 2nd, I am not sure my legs will work by then. ;o) Going all out yesterday was a risk, especially since the other grand slam actually beat me!!! At least we will both be tired in 3 weeks, right??? She now has an almost 3 minute lead on me. I have 3 races to try to catch her.

Great long run/support mission Kam. That sounds like a blast, and some excellent miles as well.

I'll take a rain check, but will revisit this invite after UV:) Nice work Kam!

Kelli, three minutes over the course of 78.6 miles will be a piece of cake. You'll be able to make up the time. Now that you know who and what you are up against, you can more effectively strategize coming into the races.

Tara, I'll take you up on it after UVM.

Rachelle, I think Kelli is right about your speed right now. Don't sell yourself short.

Andy, which option do you prefer, or neither? Russ, I wish you weren't in Montana so you could join us on the run. Snakes are out in abundance!
