My legs feel some semblance of normal today.  Perhaps a 3-4 miler after work.  Each day it's like a layer of soreness is removed to reveal a new uncomfortable area.  My mood needs to go for a run.

I got out with my son.  To Smoot Park and back.  The drinking fountain wasn't cold, but it's still on.  My right lateral glute is sore.  Everything else loosened up in a mile or so.  I think reports that the Huntsville Marathon is a body masher are overstated.  Any marathon at race pace is a body masher.

I just realized that you are holding smarties in your hand in your picture. Awesome. Thats all I need....this candy and to run. Hope you and your mood are feeling good. Again, great job on Saturday.

Glad you were able to get out and find no major issues. Huntsville is intriguing.

Did someone say Monster mash?

Hi, Lily. Happy Birthday.

From Kam on Thu, Oct 04, 2012 at 09:25:37 from 68.66.163.179

Wanna save me the trouble of looking up race results and just tell me your age? I'll soon be 41.

From Kam on Thu, Oct 04, 2012 at 09:27:38 from 68.66.163.179

Yes, Tara. Huntsville is intriguing. The RD already confirmed they are going to bump the start earlier, which should take care of most of the heat issues. What it won't solve is the altitude. I think all that equals out and makes it a pretty fair representation of a marathon. Obviously you have the distance, aided by the downhill, but hindered by the altitude. Push.

Did ya notice the autoc orrect on my phone changed your name to JAM twice this week, Kam? I hate updating on my stupid smart phone!

From Kam on Thu, Oct 04, 2012 at 10:59:38 from 68.66.163.179

Lily, I don't mind. Ham and Jam are two of my favorite foods. Not necessarily at the same time, though. Lest you think I like all foods that rhyme with my name, I don't like Pam, ram, or spam.

Smarties? maybe I need to switch my fueling plan.

I have ran fast marathon and not been near as sore as I was after running the 17 of the Huntsville course. I don't think flat rolling courses make you as sore. but I do think marathons are body mashers in general .

From Rachelle on Thu, Oct 04, 2012 at 11:12:52 from 199.190.170.22

Glad your feeling good Kam. I have to agree that any marathon at any pace is a body masher. I ran a completely flat 4:06 marathon with a friend last year for "fun" and it was still a body masher!

From AngieB on Thu, Oct 04, 2012 at 20:18:36 from 65.130.72.90

I agree w Josse it was a body masher of a course. My legs are still feeling it. Glad your recovered.

In the past 12 months I've run 3 races of marathon distance and I'd say there is a difference in how my body felt afterwards. St. George was a downhill (3000 foot drop) and my quads screamed for 3-4 days. Bighorn 50K was an even worse downhill (7000 feet drop) and my quads screeched for 4-5+ days. Montana Marathon was only a slight downhill (1300 feet drop) my quads were barely sore at all, but I killed my previous PR. My calves were a bit sore, but I walked normally afterwards. I think there is something to the non-Canyon marathon recovery. I'm not sure the elevation matters during the race because as you say any 26.2 race is bloody hard, but recovery was very different for me.
