8:30 pm  So I've been a little under the weather since last week, and I'm beginning to be nervous about having all these throwaway days leading up to the marathon.  Despite feeling lousy, I thought I needed to go get in a few miles.  I should have stayed home.  I started with Jack in the stroller, but by a half mile in, the re-inflated tire was flat.  We turned around, and I dumped him home, and left alone.

It was the warmest run I'll have in a while; 75 degrees.  I made it 2 miles, and felt so lousy I lay down on the sidewalk for 10 minutes to look at the moon.  Using the "don't be a quitter" part of my brain, I continued further from the house, determined to go mind over matter.  At the turnaround, I was really feeling bad.  I started walking home, now three miles away.  I never run with a phone, and I don't know any of these neighbors.  I kept using the force to send telepathic messages to my family to come pick me up, but it didn't work.  Finally, with 1.5 miles to go, I got the nerve to ask a walker if she had a phone.  She let me use it, and I got a ride home.

I fell into bed, somewhat delerious.  Shoulda stayed home and gone to bed.  I don't know how I'm going to get on track.

I'm sorry Kam. You still have some time, plus you've done all the hard work. I think one more quality run sometime before the marathon will be a good sharpener workout. You must have really been hurting to call with just over a mile left. That stinks. Let me know if you need to cancel tomorrow's PM run.

It is better for you to be feeling this way now than next week. As you well know, there is not a lot of things you can do to improve during the last two weeks leading up to the marathon. All of the work is done and you just need to stay sharp and get to the starting line healthy.

I went through something similar in the weeks leading up to Big Cottonwood and found that it was a hydration issue (both fluid and electrolytes).

Thanks, Tara and Andy. I had a solid 4 miler last night with my new shoes. Everything checked out fine. I'm well on my way to kicking the bug. Like you mention, better this week than next. The cool temperatures are making me so excited! I'll take to heart the hydration advice.
