Day off surrounded by sick kids.  I waited till the temperature peaked, and left for an open ended run.  I felt pretty good, running the first 2 miles around 7 min. pace.  Then I walked enough to make an 8 min 3rd mile.  The following 5 miles were 6:45-7:00 pace, including some good climbs.

I guess I was thinking about marathon training too much and got a bit carried away.  I was talking with my wife last night about the race, and going big.  I could go two ways on it; higher mileage or more speed stuff.  I watched pretty closely the results Christi got with lower volume/high intensity training, and that seems to fit my schedule better.  But I'm a wuss, and don't always want to work that hard.  She's got game, too.  I don't know if I have enough heart to show up and gut it out like that.

In any case, I've got to go beyond what I did for TOU.  I have a solid base, I'm healthy, and not burned out at this time.

Nice run Kam! I've yet to run a marathon and I've never been able to get my mileage up without getting burned out or injured but I try to do quality(faster) miles and less running. It's all about what your body can handle and responds to. You should see if it works for you. Good luck this year.

i tend to handle the lower intensity training better, but everyone is different. the trick is finding what works best for you.

i know you've got game -- whatever your strategy, go for it.

Thanks for the input. It's hard to balance every thing and stay on top of all the details. I'll probably end up playing it by ear and running 8-10 miles 4-5 times per week and longer on the weekend. Also, adding in faster miles a couple times per week instead of just grinding away slowly all the time.

An idea, and something I think I will do....high intensity with lower miles aside from your once a week long run. I am going to do an experiment this year and do my first marathon training one way in the spring, and the other the other way in the Fall. I guess if you've done it one way, might as well try the other to see if you get the result you want.

Oh, yeah, solid run for sure!
