Sunday afternoon run in the windy cold.  My daughter came along on her bike, thank goodness.  I've been spoiled doing all my long runs with Andy, Tara and larger groups.  I really struggled, courtesy of Saturday's 10k, and nearly quit after 12, but gutted out another three that should have been six.

So I'm long run deficient.  I gotta get some 20+ runs soon.

you'll be fine. 15 is solid. 20+ runs are important, but you definitely don't need to do them every week. get a few more in over the next six weeks and you will be good to go for the marathon.

Thanks, allie. How are you feeling about your race?

From Tara on Tue, Feb 28, 2012 at 20:00:17 from 75.169.154.165

Yeah, I think you could have even taken last week off from a long run. I have done that several times in place of a race. You'll be golden. Wish I could run this Saturday, I have to work. Are you still working for free? That's starting to bug me.

BTW, how did you pull off 15 miles? My legs have been so sore....for a 10K! How about yours? I feel like a wuss. Maybe someone should take my running card away.

i'm feeling eehhhh about it. i'm really not sure what is going to happen. i've put in more miles than i ever have before during a training cycle, but i don't feel super fit right now. i'm approaching it as a for fun/fitness tester/warm weather absorbing race. i'm not looking to PR, but it would be nice to run a decent time. whatever happens, it will be a nice kick start to the year and will help me set more concrete goals for the summer/fall.

hi tara.

Hi Allie. Yeah, I think you will surprise yourself. I remember you thinking the same thing as TOU approached and look what happened under less than ideal conditions. I agree a good bench mark, but I think you will do very well.

Hi Kam.

Hi Tara. Hi allie. I'm still working for free. We keep hearing, "We'll have funding in place by Friday." Then Friday comes and goes. We did get paid for one pay period in January, though.

Tara, you dropped quite a performance on Saturday, so I'm not surprised you are feeling beat up. You really brought your a-game and ran well, considering your injury. I was scheduled for 18, and was really glad to hit 83% of those miles.

allie, you'll be fine. You've got the mental constitution of a soviet astronaut combined with the body of a romanian gymnast and the discipline of an east german swimmer. You'll be in the money, likely the winner. But no pressure. That sounds like something Burt would say.

From Tara on Wed, Feb 29, 2012 at 08:19:18 from 75.169.154.165

That is probably one of the funniest and accurate descriptions of Allie I have ever heard.

Allie- Remember those words during your race. Use them as a mantra.

SOVIET MENTALITY! ROMANIAN GYMNAST! EAST GERMAN SWIMMER! (don't forget the "East" part, that's one's important.) Say it over and over again and you will win.

Thanks Kam. So you're not sore. I know it's because you regularly fly up Freedom hills and the such. No surprise. That was really nice of them to pay you for that one period in January. They're certainly no Soviet Astronauts or they would have paid you by that last, last, last Friday they originally promised. The possibilities are endless with those descriptions! I'm going to have to remember them.
